TEATERteater bied ons die geleentheid om met kreatiewe en inspirerende individue te werk en om samewerking tussen talentvolle teaterpraktisyns te bewerkstellig.
Een van ons grootste doelwitte is om ‘n meer permanente infrastruktuur te vestig wat aan ‘n geselskap van akteurs, regisseurs, skrywers en tegnici ‘n meer standvastige omgewing bied waarbinne hulle kan skep en asemhaal.

TEATERteater is an opportunity for us to work and collaborate with creative and inspiring individuals and like-minded theater practitioners, including our country’s finest theatrical talents.
One of the main aims of our collaboration is to put a more permanent infrastructure in place for a company of directors, actors, writers, designers and technical crew, so that they have a more stable and secure environment within which to create quality work (productions). |

MARTHINUS BASSON started his theatrical career in 1974 as props maker at the Cape Performing Arts Board and as actor-cum-stage-manager at The Space Theatre, in Cape Town. Since 1985 he has established himself as a director/designer and has worked in all theatrical genres. His work includes Waarom is die wat voor toyi-toyi altyd so vet? by Antjie Krog; Johnny Cockroach by Breyten Breytenbach; The Fall of the House of Usher and Boks for ARCA in Gent, Belgium; six operas for the Spier Summer Festival; a contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona for the 2003 Maynardville season in Cape Town; Astor Piazzolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the musicals Cabaret and Boy meets Boy, and has worked extensively in educational, industrial and community theatre. As member of the Vleis, Rys & Aartappels company he directed and designed new plays by Belgian playwrights in 2003: Aars! and Romeo & Julia by Peter Verhelst and Mamma Medea by Tom Lanoye. His production of Tall Horse for Handspring/Sogolon Company toured to Germany and America after its opening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. He has been nominated 53 times as director/designer/actor and is the recipient of 36 awards, including the Standard Bank Young Artists Award in 1989, The South African Academy’s Award for Contribution to South African Theatre and the Nederburg Opera Award for Cavaliera Rusticana. In June 2009 he directed and designed Beethoven’s Fidelio for Opera Queensland in Australia and at the beginning of 2010 he was the director of Anthony and Cleopatra for the Maynardville season. HUGO THEART is ‘n opgeleide akteur, toevallig ‘n produksiebestuurder, ‘n aspirant regisseur en vervaardiger uit noodsaak. Hy is weetgierig en nuuskierig van natuur en tog is hy ‘n baie slegte student. Sy passie is teater, maar hy is ook baie lief vir televisie en film. Daar is ‘n toekenning of twee wat hy sou kon noem, maar daar is meer wat nie aan hom toegeken is nie. Hy het al met internasionale sterre, sepiesterre, teatergode, genieë, skoonheidskoninginne, supermodelle, prima donnas, engele, meesters, selfbehepte #####, talentvolle en ontalentvolle mense gewerk. Hy raak gou verveeld en daarom is sy loopbaan dalk bietjie skisofrenies van aard. Theart sou graag eendag ‘n film sy eie wou noem en die gedagte aan ‘n dokumentêre film of reeks prikkel hom. Genoeg.
